Cardi B Makes History as Woman Rapper

Updated: Jul 30, 2018

Cardi B has had a long journey to get to this point in her career. Who would’ve ever thought that a former stripper and reality star would be the first woman rapper to have to songs top the Billboard Hot 100 charts? Cardi B debut single “Bodak Yellow” hit number back in October of last year and stayed there for 3 weeks.

She has proved her haters wrong time and time again. She wasn’t taken seriously as a rapper, but her hard work and persistence have taken her to the top. For so long all eyes have been on Nicki Minaj, but Cardi B has earned a spot as a solid rapper with her debut “Invasion of Privacy.”

There are only 4 other women rappers to top the charts and those are Lauryn Hill with “Doo Wop (That Thing),” Lil Kim ft Christina Aguilera, Mya, and P!nk “Lady Marmalade,” Shawnna featured on Ludacris’s “Stand Up,” and “Fancy,” by Iggy Azalea.

Her second number one single was “I Like,” featuring Latin music stars Bad Bunny and Blavin. She is the first artist to have two number one singles on her album since Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s “Thrift Shop” and “Can’t Hold Us,” back in 2013.
