Just recently, fans of all ages learned of the sudden passing of comedic genius and legend, John Witherspoon. News of his passing spread like wildfire amongst a number of social media platforms and blog sites. “It is with deepest sorrow that we can confirm our beloved husband and father, John Witherspoon, one of the hardest working men in show business, died today at his home in Sherman Oaks at the age of 77”, John’s family shared in a statement to Deadline.

Witherspoon has been in many film classics and tv favorites from Friday, Boomerang, The Boondocks, The Wayans Bros, Next Friday and the list goes on. Not only was he known for his catchy and memorable punchlines like “Bang! Bang! Bang!” or “Everytime I come in the kitchen, you in the kitchen.” he always knew how to stand out with his fashion and made sure that everyone knew how to coordinate.

Fans and celebrities took to social media to share their memories and send condolences to everyone’s favorite tv father. “Thank you God for the many many many laughs that we shared on and off the set. You got “all the keys” and I know you got one to heaven’s gate. Anytime I want to laugh or to see you I’m gonna put on a episode of Wayans bros and laugh until I cry," said Marlon Wayans in a post dedicated to his on screen father.

In many households, especially my own you could always hear someone quoting a line of his or laughing at one of his many memorable scenes. Not only could he make you laugh until you were crying, he would drop timeless gems and wisdom from time to time. The world took a major loss with the passing of a true icon and hardworking man. His legacy and light will forever reign supreme.

Rest in Power, “Pops”
